History of panko breadcrumbs? They were invented during WWII by Japanese soldiers on the battlefield. They used their tanks’ batteries to quickly “bake” bread. They discovered that the bread was extremely light and airy, with very small air pockets. Today we used deliciously fresh baked bread for our panko.
